The Clifton Moor Business Association was created around 20 years ago and one of the driving forces behind the Association was Bill Heat, the owner of York Survey Supply Centre.
Bill's vision was to create a forum where the views of businesses on Clifton Moor could be represented and to encourage mutual business between businesses based on the estate.
As the number of businesses on the estate grew, so did the Association and it was eventually formed into a company limited by guarantee with a board of directors drawn from companies who are members of the CMBA.
The membership has always been very much drawn from the commercial and industrial part of Clifton Moor rather than the retail part and that is partly because many of the retail businesses belong to national chains and so they don't have the same view of local issues.
The Board of CMBA meets regularly every month to discuss issues relevant to Clifton Moor and to plan regular breakfast meetings where members can meet to network and listen to interesting speakers.
The Association also publishes a newsletter twice a year and this provides an opportunity for members to spread the word about what they do and to highlight and new developments in their businesses.
With membership costing only £60.00 a year the CMBA newsletter offers an extremely cost effective way for members to advertise their services because the newsletter goes to both members and non members on Clifton Moor and beyond.
The Board are also always on the lookout for interesting speakers for the breakfast meetings and this presents another opportunity for members to talk about the business sector they operate in and raise their profile at the same time.
